Mobility is the largest and most successful car sharing company in Switzerland. Their software is now used by other car sharing companies both nationally and internationally.
All the way back at the beginning of the 2010s we were tasked to create an app for Mobility. It was at a time, when apps were still considered a bit of a novelty. Hence the UI is antiquated by today’s standards.
The reservation was at the center of the app, and for that we determined three filters.
On the app location is the most important factor. That’s why the map was placed in the main menu.
Category and time could be chosen via filters.
Once a station is selected, all information about this station is shown. This includes the address and the way there, as well as the categories available at this station.
On this station a reservation can be made.
The Reservation can be seen on the journey tab.
All other future reservations can be seen on the Reservation tab.
After the success of the Mobility app, other companies were interested to use the its software for their own projects.
Renault created a small test project in an area around their Technocentre for their then new electric Twizy cars. They called on Mobility and Comerge to adapt the app. Here, cars could be picked up and left wherever you wanted. Within the bounds of this space. I adapted the design and helped with the user flow.
Unfortunately there was a lot of vandalism and the project proved to be too hard to maintain. So it ended in October 2014.
The Australian car sharing company Popcar used the Mobility’s software and app for their fleet of cars. I was tasked with doing a redesign of the app with the Popcar brand.
Popcar and their fleet are still in operation today.
